Good News Everyone,
You probably subscribed to this email from my website geremygood.com sometime over the last couple years. I used to send out an email talking about the things I was thinking about, working on, and struggling with. I’ve created drafts upon drafts of these emails and always find a way to put off actually sending it. To combat that I’m sending every Wednesday from now on.
If you wish to not receive this short weekly message, please unsubscribe. I totally understand that we get lots of emails every day. I’m not sending these emails only because I want to improve my writing, or grow my audience (although those are goals of mine). I’m sending these emails because I know I have something to share.
So, if you are interested in growing with me, stay subscribed (and maybe recommend to a friend.) I’ll be talking about design, inspiration, art, craft, ethics, food, and anything else that I’m thinking about, working on, or happen upon. Here’s a few of those things.
What I’m Listening To
Last week I saw one of my favorite Chicago hiphop artists Noname. The show brought a little slice of Chicago back to Los Angeles. Her 2016 song Diddy Bop is stuck so deep in my head I think I’ve woken up singing it every day for the last few weeks.
What I’m Reading
This year I’m trying to read a book a month, which honestly is pretty aggressive for me. I struggle to find time to get good reading time in and I’m a pretty slow reader. I picked up this book So You Want To Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo and I highly recommend it. Although I haven’t read anything in it that is shocking to me, as a white cis male I appreciate the approach and lessons shared. I grew up in a pretty homogeneous culture, and I still only now realize some of the privilege I have had in my life, and will continue to have.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned from this book so far is how much more I can stand up and fight for equality and equity in my everyday life. How so much of our world has been shaped and supported by white supremacy and how detrimental that is for so many people. It will continue to be a learning process for myself, as with all of us.
An Internet Link
I’ve been dipping back into furniture building and this video by DIY Japanese Jointery is a lovely video explaining the proper care and use of a Japanese hand plane. Each time I’ve watched this I think about the simplicity of this device and how precise and important it’s design has been to one of the oldest traditions of time. It makes me think about technology in a different way, and I really like that.
Closing thought
Here’s to keeping this on track. Feel free to keep me accountable. 😛
With love 🖤
